Politecnico di Milano is a scientific-technological university, established in Milan since 1863, which trains engineers, architects and industrial designers. POLIMI has more than 1,600 professors and about 48,000 students over 7 campuses. The research team participating in this project belongs to the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering ‘Giulio Natta’. The Department focuses on the following research lines: a) Environment; b) Buildings, Durability and Cultural Heritage; c) Design of Engineering Materials and Advanced Manufacturing; d) Energy; e) Food; f) Life Sciences and Technologies; g) Safety; and h) Industrial Process and Process Systems Engineering. In particular, the research team operates at the Laboratory of Biological Structure Mechanics (LaBS). LaBS was established in Feb. 2000 with the mission to carry out applied research in the field of biomechanics, with a major focus at designing components and devices for medical and biotechnological applications. LaBS main investigation topics range from tissues and biomaterials to prostheses and medical devices, with special attention to biomechanical phenomena. In particular, LaBS has a significant expertise in the numerical simulation of minimally invasive vascular procedures and devices.
