Clinical Forum Meeting May 7, at European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) 2026 in Maastricht
The Clinical Forum Meeting at ESOC in Maastricht was a great succes. The room was fully packed with around 40 persons, with some standing or sitting on the floor. Participants included interventional neuroradiologists, neurologists, medical decision making experts, biomedical engineers, PhD students and representatives from medical device and pharma industry. We were honored with the attendance of Prof Christian Taschner, who is responsible for MDR and approval of new devices within EMA and member of the Board of ESMINT.
After a brief introduction by Professor Charles Majoie, Prof Henk Marquering presented an overview on our previous H2020-INSIST and our ongoing DTH-GEMINI projects. This was followed by interactive demonstrations by Thijs Kuipers and Wiktor Olszewski of Mock examples of computational simulations of mechanical thrombectomy of patients with acute ischemic stroke due to intracranial large vessel occlusions using stent-retrievers, aspiration catheters form individual patient data and vivid discussions. Main topics discussed were on how these simulations were validated (VVUQ), how to further optimize the visualisation of the Digital Twin of mechanical thrombectomy and how to accelerate the simulations for the acute setting.
